Avoid so-called bucket shops first and foremost. Get a large reputable broker such as Deutsche Bank. Need to check thoroughly cred of broker before handing over any money. Beware of off shore East European based brokers. Lots of bad comment and some good about Saxo Bank (it is not really a bank at all by the way). Educate yourself with more than one good book on the topic and you will need some luck and to be alert for possible shenanigans (requotes, tree shaking, etc). Other than that start with a trial (virtual) account but remember that this is very different experience to using real money. Avoid high leverage as the greater it is the greater the potential gains but also the losses! Discussion forums are good but never take tip from one as the counter party to your trade (likely to be your broker in most cases) may be offering advice! Hope this helps.
