My transmission in my 02 nissan altima will not come out of park ?

I have checked fuse and also the brake lights are operatting . Before this accurred i had a clicking sound in my console that was releasing the shifter . this is not accurring now .

You should have a key hole next to the shifter on the right side on this vehicle. put the key in the slot and press down firmly to reset the transmission shifter.... if you don't have the key slot you could have a problem with the shifter switch. when you push the button in if the toggle switch is broke it wont go out of gear..only other thing I could think of is the shift linkedge is loose or bad.
