While there are plenty of definitions for what a family is in the dictionary (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/family), a family is none of these things. A true family is what you make of it. There's an old saying, "Home is where the heart is." Well the same can be said about a family. A family is a group of people who love and care for each other. Just because someone's adopted, doesn't make their adoption parents not part of their family, but rather quite the contrary. If someone is willing to take you in, and spend their money on food and clothes for you, to take care of you, be there for you when you're down, then they are truly your family. A family is what you make it, it can be considered a small community. You only get out of it what you put into it. If you want love, care, and respect from those around you, you need to give them the same. If you have a true friend, someone who is willing to go out of there way to help you when you need it, someone who will always offer advice, or at the least a shoulder to cry on, they too are a member of your family. The thing that makes a family what it is is the love and care everyone has for each other.
