How do you open videos made with Camstudio?

Well I was going to make videos on my computer with this for Youtube, but once I save the video I can't find the files with the videos! I saved them into a folder but when I search for it, now it opens up Camstudio and says, OPEN and HELP but when I select open, and I search for the folder so I can watch them, it says that it is not found! Help!

if you're running CamStudio in XP Compatibility Mode in Vista it saves the AVI files to a different location by default.

C:\Users\[Your Profile Name]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Camstudio.

The AppData directory is normally hidden by default in Vista so to make it visible, you go to:

Start > Control Panel > Folder Options > select the 'View' tab >

then check the "show hidden files and folders" radio button.

Be careful, hidden files can't be moved/deleted by accident.

There's also a Compatibility Files button in the CamStudio installation folder in Program Files - click that and you should see the AVIs.

Or alternatively, in: Options > Program Options > Name of AVI

Change it to "Ask for file name" and save the AVI somewhere else.

Download CamStudio, and get started. Just click the red circle and began recording and then stop it and save it and then read what RTFM Wrote in order to get it open. ;) Good Luck
RTFM has the answer!

I have been looking for this problem as I have 2 1.3 gig files that just werent there.

CamStudio > Program Options > Directory For Recording
Default selection is "Use Windows Temporary Directory"
Change it to:
"User User specified directory..."
Choose or make a directory:
C:\users\[username]\My Videos\CamStudio

Your new recordings will be found in the directory you chose.

I found my earlier videos in C:\Windows\Temp\ 3.6G of useless test videos trying to find where they are to saved to *ouch*
Mephesh Apr 23, 2011
this is incorrect...

TEMP is the batch folder.
This is a temporary folder where your recordings are being batched before you actually save it to somewhere on your computer. It doesn't matter if you change this folder or not. Once the file is saved to somewhere on your pc, this folder is empty again. And you should know, by changing this folder you can have storage problems if you change it to a low space disk.

The only way is to either go to: Options > Program Options > Name of AVI
Change it to "Ask for file name" and save the AVI somewhere else.
..... like RTFM copy pasted of the camstudio's website...

or change it in the .ini files (configuration) in your installation folder.

or you just make a shortcut to the (by default; invisible) folder C:\Users\[Your Profile Name]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Camstudio.

regards R
It's default directory is on your temp files folders.. if your not sure if where is yout temporary files folder click start-run then type temp..and OK..

Hi! I recently downloaded CamStudio and ran into the same problem. I found that if you made a new folder on your desktop, such as CamStudio Videos, you can click on options (this is within CamStudio), then program options, then directory for recording, then use user specified directory to choose where you want to save your videos. Select the folder you just made on the desk top, then you're good to go (in terms of being able to find the videos that you create).
