Very difficult to answer What the bible says has been disproved by science. If you take the length of a football pitch and take a leaf out of a copy book ,man has existed on earth the thickness of the leaf of the copy book compared to earth existing the length of the football field and earth will exist alot longer then mankind. I would like to think that because it was man that wrote the bible it was written at the time with the only imformation that was available and was not written to mislead. When we are unsure of something it is very easy to presume.
