ok you made a mistake - now first off make certain of the wire(cable) markings on ALL cables
Now go back to your main drawing and check each one - now make a sketch and mark (tik off the wires you have checked
Next : is it a capacitor start motor ? or has it go a two position switch or centrifical switch built into it
Look . this voltage can kill you ....its NOT for the home handyman to play with
Make a drawing of all the wires that are coming out of the unit and the colors (yes they mean a good deal of information as well ) and take it to the motor agents and ask them if you do not come right the drawing should have been supplied in the motor terminal box lid
Why dont you just put it back and use a transformer to step the voltage to the required voltage (check the current raitng as well before doing this )
Remember to connect the earth wire , this is MOST important , to the chassis of the unit you are using - lathe AND motor MUST be earthed please - let me know how it goes- regards
