Most doctors recommend always staying on the medication, however this will cause your body to stop working on its own. Basically, your body will go, "the medication will get rid of the cholesterol, so why should I?" I suggest getting off the medication (I advise people to not get on it in the first place) and lower cholesterol naturally. A proper diet and regular exercise can lower your cholesterol levels to nearly zero.
