Cigarette lighters in luggage

Is it safe to take a cigarette lighter in your luggage when you are flying on an airplane?

Lighters are OK to be in your checked luggage, but torch lighters are strictly banned by TSA.

They don't over-pressurize in an airplane, so as long as it's checked, it will be fine, however they cannot go through the security check. I've seen some very fine zippos get taken away by airport police.
