When a nonprofit co. votes to become a domestic profit co.can the non profit co.still rec'donations

the non profit company brandX inc. voted on jan 09 to become a domestic profit co called brand X II inc.....on jan 28th. the sec of state granted
the domestic profit okay ...the company kept the vote a secret..and the nonprofit company continues to this day to request donation made out to the nonprofit..is this legal
