How do I fire an employee, maybe 2?

I'm having issues with employees doing the jobs that they are tasked with. Unfortunatly they seem to feel its ok to joke around all day. I have tried motivational talks, employee evaluations, even micro managing. Constantly babysitting them to keep them working is keeping me from concentrating on my work, and it's getting me in trouble with my boss. Since nothing else seems to be working, I think it's time to trim the fat. I'm fairly new to management, and don't know how to go about it. I have my dm's approval, but I don't know how to break it to them. Any input would be helpful. Thank you.

Dont go strait to firing them, first you have to give them expectations and tell them they are on thin ice. they obviously dont know what they are expected of. I would tell them, especially if they are under about 23, that they are on preety tihn ice and need to Kind Of catch up. tell them they have about 1 or 2 more chances, give them a day, and fire them if neccisary

Is there an employment agreement? If so, what does it say about firing? If not, you want to be safe and not get your employer sued for wrongful dismissal. Let the problem employee know that you are not satisfied with their performance and do it in writing. Give them a copy of the notice. Do this every time there is a problem. If after 3 or 4 times there is still no improvement, fire them for cause. www.entrepreneursnet.org
