It's one of the audio drivers you have available, which you can access like this:
1. call up start menu
2. click on control panel
3. click on sounds, speech and audio devices
4. under 'or pick a control panel icon' click on sounds and audio devices
5. this will bring up the properties window. click on voice tab
6. under 'voice recording' click on default device. See if the conexant is listed
7. if it isn't, install it (from your installation .exe file or cd)
8. if it is listed in the default device (under voice recording), click on it to make it the default device.
9. then click on the test hardware button
10. when you pass the test try your new hardware again. (Note: make sure your headphones also have a mike). You may have to fiddle with the other settings under the properties window, but only change one property at a time, test it, and change it back if the change doesn't fix your problem.
good luck
