What should you do when you first move in your own apartment?

OK, I'm 18 years old. I'm looking forward to get my own apartment next couple of months. I know this will be my first time move until a new apartment. when i get a job and save up money i want to move into my own first apartment. So, i want to know everything before i move into apartment. when you move into your first apartment, how can you tell you have to pay your first bill? do you have to be a member of the company like gas company, Alabama company etc to order to pay your first bills. i don't know. i mean, How does it go? i live in Alabama.

You just pay your security deposit and pet deposit if you have a pet and sometimes you have to pay first months rent as soon as you move in and you'l sign a lease for 6months to a year its your choice. Then they give you papers telling you who to get gas and electric turned on by and you just call them tell them what apartment and they'll turn it on. Depending on what time of the month you move in depends on when you get your first gas/electric bill, always expect it to be more the first month then it is the rest of the months you live there. Also plan on spending 200-300 on stocking up on groceries, shower stuff, garbage bags, cleaning products, etc. Before you move into your apartment take pictures of every room and any stains or holes or anything in the apartment so late they can't charge you for it.
