How can I persuade the District Attorney in TN to dismiss domestic assault charges?

I know after speaking to a lawyer that there are specific things I can say that will persuade the DA to dismiss the charges, but the lawyer did not elaborate. Here's some background info:
My bf who is also an Iraq vet and I got into a huge fight, I broke his TV and he assaulted me repeatedly until our mutual friends arrived. He got a police report on me for breaking his TV and to cover myself I wanted a police report on him for the assault so I obtained it a day later, however, I wasn't aware that someone has to be arrested after police respond to a domestic assault call. This is his first offense and although we wont be together after it's all said and done I dont want him to go to jail and loose his job, etc. b/c we have a young son and it benefits the son zero to see his dad become a failure.

There is no excuse for domestic assault, even if you want to drop the charges the state will charge him. P.S. Your son should see his dad for what he is, A woman beater. This may be his first offense but it won't be his last.
