What is the name of a famous musical performing group of 1940's?

Asked Nov 18, 2009
Glenn Miller, Billy Holiday, Woody Guthrie, Leadbelly, Andrews Sisters, Artie Shaw, Duke Ellington, Thelonias Monk, Muddy Waters, Louis Jordan, Nat King Cole, Hank Williams, Eddie Arnold, Bing Crosby to name a few.
Leadbelly is one, but most of the groups were in fact just that with the bands name being one of the performers in the group. They were no doubt still considered musical groups as it would be difficult to have played all of the insturments at once during a concert.
